Mission Statement
The Barre Necessities Program for Dance Education is a series of workshops for budding performing artists. The program strives to build a foundation of academia in dancers, develop pride and understanding of the arts, and encourage critical thinking skills for movement. While many schools and programs focus on either performance skills or academics, The Barre Necessities truly blends the two focuses.
About
This innovative series is was created by Imani Shivers. It began as an idea that Shivers had her senior year of college and developed shortly after. The young founder merged her passions and places in life; thus creating a place for young artists to learn and investigate their talents in performing arts.
This program is a series of workshop classes. The curriculum was built based on Shivers' learnings as a dance major in college, as well as her experiences as a performer and dance instructor of 6+ years. She felt that artists who aren't able to study the arts in college should be given the opportunities to learn some of that information. Shivers also wondered how her artistry could have developed if she had learned some of that information at a younger age. With The Barre Necessities, she aspired to give other artists that opportunity.
Services
Academic Classes
The Barre Necessities pushes the studies of performing arts. These classes give a small insight on what an art major might learn in high school or college. Classes, like Terminology, build a mental foundation for performers.
Physical Classes
Here's the fun part! Our physical classes allow the artists to apply previous lessons and grow through practice. Dancers are allowed to join our physical classes without attending the countered academic courses, but they will be missing critical information for growth.
Hybrid Classes
In our hybrid classes, we believe that the information must be drilled both mentally and physically. These nuanced classes are the heart of The Barre Necessities.
